REPS WANTS WAEC DEBTOR STATES TO REDEEM THEIR DEBTS

The House of Representatives on Wednesday urged states owing the West African Examination Council to pay the fees of government-sponsored candidates for the 2014 and 2015 examinations.
The resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Linus Okorie (Ebonyi-PDP) and unanimously adopted by the members.
Mr. Okorie expressed concern that over 600,000 candidates risked the threat of their West African Senior School Certificate Examination results being withheld by the council.
WAEC threatened to withhold the results of candidates of unnamed 19 affected states over an alleged four billion naira debt owed the council.

The World Health Organisation and three other international public health organisations have warned that Africa is at risk of a large meningitis outbreak if production of vaccines are not scaled up.
In a statement by the WHO, the organisations warned that an acute shortage of meningitis C-containing vaccine threatened to severely limit the world’s ability to minimise the number of people with the disease.
The other three organisations include the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Médecins sans Frontières, and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

NDLEA NABS CHINA BOUND MAN WITH 1.185KG DRUGS AT LAGOS AIRPORT

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 44-year-old man, Chide Chibude, for attempting to smuggle 1.185kg of cocaine to China.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mitchell Ofoyeju, Head, Public Affairs, NDLEA, on Wednesday in Lagos.
Mr. Ofoyeju said Mr. Chibude was arrested by NDLEA officers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
He said the arrest was effected while the suspect was attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to China where drug trafficking is punishable by death.
According to the statement, the suspect ingested 1.185kg of whitish substances that tested positive to cocaine.
“We discovered from our investigation that the suspect sold his property in Enugu and invested the proceeds in drug trafficking due to wrong counsel from friends.
