Gombe State government has expressed determination to improve the survival indices of women and children by reducing maternal mortality rate in the state.
The Executive Secretary of Primary Health Care Development Agency, Ahmed Gana, disclosed this
at the opening of a two-day workshop organized by Evidence for Action (E4A) on Wednesday in Gombe.
Mr. Gana said the rising number of women and children who die in avoidable circumstances was unacceptable, assuring government’s support and partnership in ensuring improvement in the maternal and child healthcare.
“Government is determined to ensure that this situation is reversed. We are going to encourage this platform to open up our health facilities because we are transparent and accountable.
“They will be encouraged to come and see all that we have on ground in terms of plans, budgets and even our challenges and limitations,” he said.
Also speaking, the National Coordinator of Evidence for Action, Aminu Garba, said the essence of the training/meeting was to form a platform of civil society, NGO’s and media that will enhance accountability mechanism on budgeting system and advocacy on issues related to women and children.
He said the platform’s advocacy should be centred on timely release of funds, proper budgeting, tracking of the budgets, among many others.
