BAYELSA POLICE REPEL PIRATE ATTACK ON PASSENGER BOAT, RECOVERS ARMS

The Bayelsa Police Command on Sunday said its Marine Division in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state had repelled an attack by sea pirates on a passenger boat in the area.
Asinim Butswat, an ASP and spokesman of the Command, said in a statement that the attack occurred on August 28 at Gina-Gbene area of Southern Ijaw.
According to the spokesperson, an AK-47 Assault rifle and live ammunition were recovered from the pirates who abandoned their 75 Horse Power speedboat and fled into the creeks.
Mr. Butswat assured that efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing pirates.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, on Saturday said it had transported 18,909 intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for the 2015 pilgrimage.
About 76,000 intending pilgrims from the 36 states and Abuja are expected to participate in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The Director, Public Affairs of the commission, Uba Mana, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the airlift had been hitch free since it began on August 23.
He said the commission had so far recorded 49 flights of pilgrims mostly from Kaduna, Lagos, Sokoto, Katsina, Oyo, Lagos, Zamfara and Kogi.
