The Athletics Federation of Nigeria has offered some explanation on why Africa’s Queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare, was conspicuously missing in the Heats for the 200m Women’s event earlier Wednesday at the ongoing World Championships in Beijing, China.
Hopes were high that Okagbare would bounce back strongly in the 200m event having failed to meet mounting expectations in the 100m, but the AFN in a statement said the double champion in the Commonwealth was held back by a hamstring injury.
“She (Okagbare) had a hamstring injury during warm-up,” the statement from the AFN stated.

It continued: “Blessing was focused on doing well in the 200m, her warm up was okay but she developed an hamstring injury”.
“Nevertheless, she is expected to make a recovery in time to compete for Team Nigeria in the women’s 4x100m relay,” it said.
Okagbare is now in a race against time as the 4x100m event starts on Saturday.
