Hopes were high that Okagbare would bounce back strongly in the 200m event having failed to meet mounting expectations in the 100m, but the AFN in a statement said the double champion in the Commonwealth was held back by a hamstring injury.
“She (Okagbare) had a hamstring injury during warm-up,” the statement from the AFN stated.
It continued: “Blessing was focused on doing well in the 200m, her warm up was okay but she developed an hamstring injury”.
“Nevertheless, she is expected to make a recovery in time to compete for Team Nigeria in the women’s 4x100m relay,” it said.
Okagbare is now in a race against time as the 4x100m event starts on Saturday.
