NIGERIAN PARTIES NOW 29 AS INEC REGISTERS DPC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has registered a new political party, Democratic Peoples Congress, bringing the number of registered parties in Nigeria to 29.
This was disclosed by INEC in a release Thursday.
The registration of DPC was sealed at the commission’s meeting, held on Friday June 19, 2015, stated the release.
In a letter addressed to the national chairman of the party, signed by the secretary to the commission, Augusta Ogakwu, INEC said the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo/flag and the list of the national executive officers were also approved.

The letter also stated that the certificate of registration would be issued in due course.
Meanwhile, the electoral body has released the timetable for bye-election into the Katsina Federal Constituency, in Katsina State.
According to a statement signed by the director for election and party monitoring department, Bala Shittu, Thursday, the election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
According to Mr. Shittu, a meeting with individuals and parties concerned in preparation for the election held on Wednesday.
Umar Abubakar elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to represent Katsina Federal Constituency in the March 28 election, died June 3, days before the 8th National Assembly was inaugurated on June 9.
The seat has since become vacant.
