The Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, Hogan Bassey, confirmed the raid.
He said the attack occurred at the victim’s residence in Creek Town, Odukpani Local Government Area on Friday.
Mr. Bassey also told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the police were on top of the situation.
He said the state police command would ensure his release without any harm.
He added that the police were unaware of any demand for ransom.
Mr. Ekpenyong-Ekpe was kidnapped at about 4a.m on Friday by unknown gunmen who raided his Creek Town home in Odukpani Local Government Area.
A relative of the man, Etim Edet, told NAN that the gunmen gained access to the area in a boat through the creek.
Mr. Edet said, “several armed men just burst into his house at about 4 a.m Friday morning and whisked him away through the narrow canal here.
“They gained access through the creek and after abducting him, they disappeared through the creeks also. Soldiers have been sent to the area as we speak”.
There was no word from the abductors by late Saturday, another family source said.
