The policeman has his name as Taiwo Kazeem on the police record, but was alleged to have gotten
the name when he used someone else’s certificate to secure employment with the police.
The petition from the hometown of the accused, Ibogun-Alapoti, Ifo Local Government Area, was earlier forwarded to the anti-graft agency, ICPC, with the petitioners saying the cop’s real name is Sunday Kehinde.
The ICPC then referred the petition to the police who have since begun investigation.
The petitioners said they discovered the alleged fraud when the police officer got involved in a legal land dispute as a complainant with his original name.
“He is said to hail from Ibogun-Alapoti via Ifo, Ogun State and was born to late Mr Francis Dademu Kehinde of Ibogun-Alapoti via Ifo. He is a member and representative of Kehinde family Ibogun-Alapoti using the name Sunday Kehinde and signing landed property documents in the same name (Sunday Kehinde) and designation,” the petition stated.
“He uses his position as a police officer to oppress and intimidate people in the community, as he is fondly referred to as Sunday Mopol.”
According to the petitioners, the policeman’s name on his uniform is usually covered when he visits the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the command was investigating the allegations.
“Recently, the command has been directed by police headquarters to conclude investigations and bring up a report, so the matter is still under investigation,” he said.
