Bodies of five children, aged between three and seven were discovered inside an empty freezer on January 19 at Kakamas - Northern Cape, South Africa. The children were apparently trapped inside the unused freezer, which was standing in the backyard of their grandmother’s house.

Adrian Madjiedt, Jamiem Madjiedt, Anastacia Madjiedt, Elzaan Johnson and Elrich Johnson, all cousins were laid to rest on Saturday, January 30. Northern Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas, who attended the funeral urged all parents to be vigilant about the whereabouts of their children.
"It is times like theses which remind us just how precious our children are . . . they are truly gifts from the Almighty Father. As parents we should ensure that we give them our unwavering support and love at all times. We should guard and protect them to the best of our abilities to ensure their safety. In the spirit of ubuntu we should care for one another and share each others’ joy and sadness. Memories of these beautiful angels will forever remain with us and it is our prayer that their souls rest in eternal peace," she said
Lucas praised the Kakamas community for their support to the family of the children and also pledged to support the families in future.
