MAN GOES TO JAIL FOR REJECTING JUDGE'S VERDICT

A complainant, Ebenezer Agbetuyi, was on Monday sent to prison after he violently opposed the verdict of an Ekiti State Customary Court on his suit seeking the dissolution of his 11-year-old marriage.

Mr. Agbetuyi dragged his wife, Bukola Agbetuyi, before the court asking for a
dissolution of the marriage and praying the court to allow him take custody of their two children,Yetunde, 10, and Biodun, one.
The complainant accused his wife of being too cantankerous, keeping late outside, lack of care for him and showing no respect for his family.
The President of the Court, Joseph Ogunsemi, while granting his prayers to bring the marriage to an end, however, turned down his second prayer, and granted that the children be kept by the woman because they were too young to be kept by their father.
After the judgment, the complainant sought to be allowed to make a speech, but was advised that after the reading of the judgment, no comments were allowed.
He however went wild, causing a scene outside the court room and cursing the judge.
His noise outside the court room became disruptive to the court session which was entertaining another case, as he was heard vowing not to pay the N4000 awarded for the upkeep of the children.
Mr. Agbetuyi’s conduct angered the court president, who ordered the police officer attached to the court to arrest him for contempt of court.
The judge immediately wrote another judgment in which he ordered that Mr. Agbetuyi be detained in prison for “exhibiting indiscipline, ignorance and disturbing the peace of the court”.
