The management of two FM stations operating in Kano, Wazobia and Cool FM, has debunked allegations that the stations’ programmes were breaching the codes of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission.

On Friday, some disengaged staff of the stations alleged that the company, which owned the two stations, was breaching both ethical regulatory codes guiding its operation in Kano State.
The stations however said in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday that the country’s broadcasting regulator would have sanctioned them if the contents of their programmes were against the laws of the country.
“On the NBC matter, we have been operating according to the code of broadcasting, by our regulatory body, the NBC. If we had not, the NBC would have come after us,” Onimisi Adaba, an official of the company, said in the statement.
“They usually draw our attention whenever the need arises. We were once shut down by the NBC because of a major breach by one of the staff who was later asked to go.”
On the allegation of accommodating staff within the office complex as alleged by the disgruntled ex-staffers, the company said the housing facility was provided to ease the suffering of workers towards better service delivery.
“On the accommodation, it is the company’s way of reducing the burden on staff of all our stations across the country and every housed staff has their individual apartment, en suite,” the company said.
The station however noted that some few staff were sacked, while others voluntarily resigned from the company due to disregard for contractual agreement.
