Ahead of the conduct of the remaining governorship and 2019 general
elections, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday forwarded the list of
six Commissioners of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
to the Senate for confirmation.
The prospective commissioners are Prof Okechukwu Obinna Ibeanu (Anambra-
South-East), May I. Agbamuche-Mbu, (Delta- South-South), AVM Ahmed
Tijani Mu’azu (rtd) (Gombe- North-East) and Mohammed Kudu Haruna (Niger-
North-Central)
Others are Dr Adekunle Ladipo Ogunmola (Oyo- South-West) and Abubakar Ahmed Nahuche (Zamfara/North-West)
In a letter addressed to the Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki
dated September 27, 2016, Buhari requested the Upper Chamber to screen
and confirm the six nominees for the position of INEC National
Commissioners in accordance with Section 154(1) of the 1999
Constitution (as amended).
He said: I write to forward herewith the names of six National
Commissioners appointed for the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) from the six geopolitical zones for the confirmation
of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The President also requested the Senate to consider and confirm the
list of five nominees for the position of National Commissioners for
National Population Commission (NPC).
The Names of the nominees are Benedict Ukpong- Member (Akwa Ibom),
Gloria Fateya Izonfuo -member (Bayelsa), Barr Kupchi Patricia Ori
Iyana - member (Benue).
Others are Dr Haliru Bala-member (Kebbi) and Dr Eyitayo O. Oyetunji - member (Oyo).
